About Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark’s vibrant capital, is a dynamic city with a population of over 650,000, located at the gateway between Europe and Scandinavia. As a historical hub for trade and commerce, Copenhagen has grown into a leading centre for international diplomacy, culture, and innovation, making it a sought-after destination for conferences and events. The city is home to several key international organizations, including the headquarters of the Nordic Council and the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe.

Copenhagen’s rich history, dating back to the 10th century, is interwoven with its modern identity as a global city. The city masterfully blends its medieval charm, seen in its cobblestone streets and historic buildings, with cutting-edge architecture and sustainable urban planning. From the time of the Vikings to the present day, Copenhagen has played a significant role in European history, which is reflected in its diverse cultural landscape. The city’s literary, artistic and scientific contributions continue to shape the modern world, making it beacon of creativity and progress.

Today, Copenhagen offers a unique mix of historical landmarks and contemporary attractions. Visitors can explore the iconic Tivoli Gardens, the majestic Amalienborg Palace, and the historic Nyhavn harbour, alongside a thriving culinary scene that ranges from traditional Danish smørrebrød to world-renowned Michelin-starred restaurants. The city is also famous for its commitment to sustainability, with an extensive network of cycling paths and green spaces that make it one of the world’s most livable cities. In Copenhagen, old-world charm meets modern innovation, creating a harmonious experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

Climate

Copenhagen, situated on the eastern coast of Denmark, experiences a temperate maritime climate. This coastal location ensures that the city enjoys mild temperatures year-round, with distinct seasonal variations.
In October, temperatures in Copenhagen typically range between 12°C – 7°C during the day, with cooler nights.

For detailed information on the weather forecast, please visit: www.dmi.dk / www.bbc.com/weather/2618425

Electricity & Time

The main voltage in Denmark is 230V. Power outlets are typically Type C and Type K.
Copenhagen is in the Central European Time Zone, one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1).

Tipping

Service is normally included in the bill at restaurants, hotels and taxis. Waiters and waitresses, taxis drivers etc. earn higher wages than in other countries and are not dependent on tips in the same way.
Tipping is greatly appreciated, but not expected. If you feel you are getting exceptionally good service, tips are always welcomed and usually about 10%.

Banks and Local Currency

Banks are generally open from Monday to Friday, with typical hours being 09:00 – 16:00, and extended hours until 17:30 on Thursdays. ATMs are widely available, and cash can be withdrawn there 24/7. Most ATMs accept Maestro, Mastercard, Visa, AMEX and Diners Club.

The local currency is the Danish Krone (DKK). Most stores in Denmark accept cash, but there is an increase in stores without cash, where you can only pay by credit card or cell phone. Please also note that many kiosks and supermarkets do not accept cash after 20:00. Credit cards are also accepted by numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and gas stations.

Public Transportation Copenhagen

The congress venue (Bella Center, Station: M1 Bella Center) as well as all hotels can easily be reached using Copenhagen’s public transport network of metro lines, busses and trains. Public transportation runs 14 hours a day with special trains, metros and busses during the night and early morning hours.

Tickets can also be purchased via mobile apps like “DOT Billetter” and “Rejseplanen”.
