EUROSPINE Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Scoliosis Research Society

28 Oct 2025

New partnership strengthens global collaboration in spine care, education, and research

Copenhagen, October 2025 – EUROSPINE, the Spine Society of Europe, is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). The agreement was formalised during the EUROSPINE Annual Meeting 2025 in Copenhagen by EUROSPINE President, Dominique A. Rothenfluh, MD PhD, and marks an important step toward closer collaboration between the two leading spine societies.

Building on a Shared Legacy

EUROSPINE and SRS have a longstanding history of collaboration, including joint symposia at the EUROSPINE Annual Meeting and the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST), as well as a previous standalone Spring Meeting in Barcelona, Spain. The new MoU strengthens these ties and paves the way for more structured and strategic cooperation in the years ahead.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The MoU outlines several areas where the two societies will join forces:

  • Joint Congress Symposia at EUROSPINE and IMAST

  • Educational Initiatives, including EUROSPINE Education Week and SRS Hands-On Courses

  • A Joint Travelling Fellowship Programme to provide young spine specialists with international exposure and exchange

  • Policy and Advocacy Efforts to strengthen the global voice of spine care

Leadership Perspectives

Commenting on the new agreement, Dominique A. Rothenfluh, MD PhD, EUROSPINE President, said:

“For EUROSPINE, this collaboration carries a special meaning — deformity is in our DNA. Our society was born from the merger of the European Spine Society and the European Spine Deformity Society, and this legacy continues to shape who we are today. By joining forces with SRS, we reaffirm our commitment to global cooperation and to pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve together.”

SRS President, Suken Shah, MD, also welcomed the agreement, highlighting the significance of the new joint fellowship initiative:

“One piece of this agreement that we are very excited about is a new annual exchange of Travelling Fellows between both societies. The SRS has a well-established and successful fellowship programme, and this collaboration allows us to expand those opportunities into new regions for our members.”

Looking Ahead

Under the new agreement, both societies will select Fellows each year to participate in a two-week observership programme at hosting centres within the partner society’s region, ideally scheduled around each organisation’s annual meeting.

EUROSPINE extends its gratitude to Dr. Suken Shah, the SRS leadership, and all who contributed to this important milestone. Together, EUROSPINE and SRS are committed to advancing global spine care through collaboration, education, and shared expertise.
