Aims of the Module

This module builds the essential skills to evaluate and manage spinal deformities from childhood through adulthood. Learners will explore the aetiology and risks of scoliosis during growth, how to assess radiographs and know when further imaging is needed, and the current evidence on conservative treatment.

Topics include clinical evaluation and prognosis, patient and family communication, bracing and Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE), spinal pain in children and adolescents, and the management of adult spinal deformities.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to diagnose spinal deformities, define their prognosis, plan appropriate conservative and rehabilitation treatment, and recognise when conservative care reaches its limits.
