The Polish Society of Spine Surgery was established in 2006 to bring together specialists in various fields of medicine to further develop spine surgery in Poland. The Society was inspired by doctors in the Spondyloorthopaedics and Neuroorthopaedics sections of the Polish Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the Polish Society of Neurosurgery. The Zakopane Symposium in 2010 was considered the 1st Congress of the Society and led to the creation of its own scientific journal, "The Journal of Spine Surgery".
