Advancing research and care for back and neck problems

Back pain is a widespread condition that affects a significant portion of the population worldwide. It is the most prevalent of all conditions involving the musculoskeletal system, which includes the bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues that support and protect the body. In fact, it is estimated that about 80% of people will experience back pain at some point in their lives.

Furthermore, back pain is a leading cause of absenteeism from work. Second only to the common flu, it is a significant contributor to lost productivity and economic burden. Patients with spinal disorders, which can cause back pain, often suffer from severe long-term pain and disability that affects their social functioning and overall quality of life.

The impact of spinal disorders on patients' lives makes it imperative to address the issue effectively. This is where the EUROSPINE Foundation (ESF) comes in. The ESF is a non-profit, charitable organisation that is dedicated to advancing our knowledge of spinal disorders, improving the standard of care, and enhancing the recovery and well-being of patients with back and neck problems.

The ESF aims to achieve its mission by supporting the development of new treatments, evaluating existing ones, and educating care providers at the highest, evidence-based level. By promoting research, innovation, and collaboration, the ESF strives to reduce the burden of spinal disorders and improve the lives of patients worldwide.
