The format of the application is as follows (with maximum number of words or pages for respective sections):
3. Conflict of interest by applicant(s)
- The applicant(s) must submit the SSE conflict of interest disclosure form

4. Rules for acceptance of proposal and funding (scoring system)
- Three reviewers will score the application.
- The application will be scored on a scale from 0-10 points in seven areas on novelty, impact in the field of spine research, investigators, research environment, preliminary or prior studies of interest for current funding request, methodology, and expected results. The application must have a score of at least 7 to be funded. Only the overall score will be provided to the applicant.
- A written critique will be given to the applicant (both funded and non-funded applications).
- Budget and budget justification scoring will be done simultaneously for all applications.

5. The decisions to fund a research proposal cannot be contested.
The decision of the panel is final.
6. Rules for re-submission
- Re-submission of an application is permitted twice.
